Summer Trip: Hogle Zoo & Bear Lake

Friday morning we went to Hogle Zoo. It was both Madison and Shaylee's first time at the zoo, and they surely enjoyed it. Madison was excited for days leading up to Friday, and for her, the zoo didn't disappoint. In fact she got a little too excited running from exhibit to exhibit and fell and scraped her knees. It didn't phase her though. She saw everything from Elephants to Tigers to gorillas and enjoyed it all. The only part she truly struggled with at first was the carousel. which she screamed and screamed until the ride was about over and then she realized that she liked it and wanted to ride again!
After the zoo, we went to our hotel in downtown Salt Lake and relaxed. Madison really enjoyed watching the trains (Trax) go by our hotel window and so of course we had to go for a ride. It was Madison's first "train" ride. By the evening the kids were exhausted, so we went to bed.
Saturday morning we drove up to Bear Lake. When we got there we went to the cabin to look around. We had lunch there and then met up with Dave and Chelsie and Dave's family. We all went out on their boat (which was Alicia, Madi, and Shaylee's first boat ride) and went tubing. It was lots of fun and Madison had fun on the boat. Afterwards we went swimming at their pool and Madison really had fun swimming, where she would jump into the pool to me and then"swim" back to the side.
There are more pictures of this trip on our facebook...check them out!

Finally...Another Post!

Call it busy or lazy, it surely has been some time since we last posted on this blog. Really, i think that it is more a lack of motivation. School is over from summer semester, so i find myself with a little time to blog.

Madison was able to finally shed her cast (pictures to follow) almost a month ago. She struggled at first, but now walks with only a slight limp. Doctor's orders were to not jump or slide for a couple of months...HA! The first thing she did upon going to her Nanny and Grandads house is run for the tramp. And when she couldn't do that she went for the slide! And then a couple of weeks ago she tweaked her ankle jumping off the stairs. I swear that girl is going to be the end of me!

Shaylee is doing great and has actually stared crawling this past week. However she still hasn't come to realize the extent of her new-found freedom...for now! She is getting bigger everyday and her little smile could make the clouds part.

Going to get the cast off!

ITS OFF!!!

Madison's 3 year check-up

After I posted about Shaylee's 6 month check-up I realized that I never posted about Madison's 3 year check-up so here we go...

We went to the doctors on May 26th and she weighs 28 lbs which is in the 21 percentile and she is 3 feet tall which is in the 24 percentile. She is growing good but the doctor did say that her tonsils are bigger than usual which happens to a lot of kids and as they grow up their tonsils go back to normal. He asked us if we have noticed her snoring or if she stops breathing, which could be a sign of sleep apnea. We hadn't noticed either one but now have realized that she does snore pretty loudly, so I asked the doctor today about it and he said that we could go to an ear, nose, and throat doctor to see what they say and if they do think it is a problem then we will have to get her tonsils and adnoids out. Hopefully she won't have to have the surgery and they will go back to normal. Other than that and her broken knee she is doing great.

On a side note, I started potty training Madi the last week of April and within a few days she was potty trained. YAY!!!

Shaylee's 6 month check-up

I took Shaylee to her 6 month check-up today. I can't believe how fast she is growing and also that she is 6 months old already. Time has gone by so fast. She weighs 16 lbs which is in the 52 percentile. She is 27 1/2 inches tall which is in the 96 percentile. and her head is 43 cm which is in the 67 percentile. On April 18 she started rolling from her back to her stomach and has now mastered that and stomach to back. She rolls all over the place. I can put her down in one spot and a few minutes later she will be half way across the room. She can also sit on her own for a few seconds. The doctor said she is doing great with hitting her milestones and she is also growing great.

Big Green Bandaid

On June 9th I took Madison to the Doctors for her follow up visit for her leg. When we got there we took off the splint and of course she screamed through that because she didn't want the big bandaid taken off and because her knee hurt. Then the doctor looked at her knee and decided to take some x-rays, or pictures as Madi calls them, to see how bad the break was. They took two x-rays and the doctor said it was definitely broken so they needed to put a cast on it. He said it was a buckle fracture. She has to have the cast on for five weeks so she will get it off on July 14. It took a long time for Madi to decide what color she wanted but then finally decided on a green one. She calls it the "big green bandaid." She has learned how to walk on it and can even go up and down the stairs which makes things a little easier. Here are a couple of pictures:

Madison's Mis-hap

Only one week after her third birthday in which she got her first Trike, poor little Madison was jumping on the trampoline at her garndparent's house and came down wrong and somehow broke her knee! She has a little hairline fracture on her knee and will probably be wearing her soft-cast for a couple of weeks. Needless to say she can't really walk on it and is pretty uncomfortable.

Madison's 3rd Birthday and More

Here's more pictures of our two cute little girls growing up right before our eyes. The pictures range from Madison's birthday trike and her watching TV on the dog to Shaylee unhappily trying solid food. Crazy how big they're both getting...
